The Annual Conference of the Teachers Syndicate at Damascus University discusses a number of issues on its agenda

Members of the annual conference of the Teachers Syndicate at Damascus University discussed the demands and problems facing the educational staff and ways to address them and improve educational and administrative work at university. They also addressed the living situation of faculty members and employees at the university and its hospitals.

 

Discussions also focused on increasing monetary compensation for members of the teaching staff, supporting the retirement treasury, establishing investment development projects, accelerating the implementation of housing project contracts for faculty members, and establishing “evening education”- to further support faculty members financially.

 

In response, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, emphasized the viability of the proposals and the way forward to achieving them.  His Excellency also stressed the need to reconsider the Open Education System, making it virtual and merging it with “Evening Education” as per the requirements of the job market.

 

Secretary of the University of Damascus branch of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, Dr. Khaled Halbouni, gave a presentation on the political developments on the local and Arab scene, stressing the resilience of the Syrian people throughout the current crisis.

 

Dr. Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban, President of Damascus University, commended the comments and proposals presented and stressed the cooperation between the university administration and the Teachers Syndicate in order to meet all the demands raised.
