Start of the Second International Engineering Conference on Renewable Energy under the title “Renewable Energy: Strategies and Solutions”

 

The Second International Engineering Conference on Renewable Energy was launched at the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Damascus University. A number of researchers participated in the conference which aims to enhance scientific research, support investment in the field of renewable energy, and find technical solutions to the problem of general blackout.

Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Dr. Bassam Ibrahim, referred to the Ministry’s approach to supporting development research, networking, and partnership with various ministries and the private sector in order to develop product services, enhance the national economy, and improve the university ranking.

The conference, according to Dr. Ibrahim, is a ‘platform’ for researchers and specialists in the field of renewable energies, including the Ministry of Electricity, the Energy Research Center, and the Atomic Energy Commission of Syria, and researchers from Syrian universities.

Minister of Electricity, engineer Ghassan Al-Zamel, pointed out that the Syrian government vision regarding the energy sector has shifted towards a field which relies on renewable energy, and the conference is directed to encourage investment in this field by setting specific goals and taking legislative amendments in relation to producing fossil or renewable energy.

President of Damascus University, Dr. Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban, said that conferences usually organized by different faculties are extremely significant for researchers, specialists, and national, regional, and international experts. They are valuable to enhance cooperation between educational, research, industrial, and service institutions.

According to the Dean of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering Faculty, Professor Dr. Moustafa Al-Mawaldi, the number of research papers is 26; the papers were peer-reviewed by Damascus University Journal Committee to be published later.

The conference mainly focuses on the technology of renewable energy, improving power efficiency indicators in industrial, agricultural and service sectors, and sustainability and preserving energy.

Director of the Syrian Investment Agency (SIA), Ms. Nada Layqa talked about the importance of introducing Investment Law 18, which supports renewable energy investment with a bunch of advantages over other types of investment.
