A Clinical Case at Al-Assad University Hospital Dealing with an Extremely Rare Location of Hydatid Cyst within the Infra-renal Aorta

  Hydatid cysts are very common in Syria, and their known cause is echinococcus granulosus, which is transmitted to humans through animals. In most cases, it is located in the lung and liver, but it has other less frequent locations.

 

Concerning the above, a research team from the Faculty of Medicine at Damascus University completed a clinical case entitled: Infra-renal aortic intra-mural hydatid cyst: An extremely rare localization.”It included a surgical procedure for a patient in his fifties who visited Al-Assad University Hospital with a complaint of intestinal obstruction.

 

The patient underwent surgery to replace the abdominal aorta and native iliac arteries with a synthetic pants-shaped graft.

In conclusion, the research team recommends conducting an in-depth reading of the radiographs in order to identify the true cause of the symptoms.
