Damascus University prepares to participate in the seventh edition of the Global Course "Institutional Design and Spatial Planning"

Damascus University is preparing to participate in the global training course "Global Course" with its seventh edition and the winner of the European Aesop Award for Excellence in Education. This course is aimed at students of the Faculty of Architecture and the Higher Institute of Regional Planning.

The course aims to address issues in urban planning from the point of view of diverse cultures which enables participants to benefit from a unique experience of teaching expertise in these universities, in addition to discussion and collaboration among participating students. This course provides an important opportunity to disseminate new and high-quality teaching and research cooperation practices amongst various architecture and planning faculties by giving lectures and broadcasting them at six major universities on three continents, namely: Damascus University, Newcastle University, Tokyo University, Renmin University, Washington University, and Groningen University which is the project manager.

The course also helps to recognize and address the differences that distinguish spatial planning between participating universities. The course revolves around two pillars: the theoretical perspective of the local context that takes into account history, culture and the economy at different levels, and the second: a comparative international perspective on planning systems based on an overview of the particular context of participating States.

Presenters in this course provide examples from their local context, explaining how the spatial planning system has been established with a view to establishing a basis for international comparison between different planning systems in terms of the geographical location of different functions and social groups, public and private profits and losses, and citizens' participation and well-being.

participants will be divided into groups each working on a specific topic. The number of students is twelve only, and the participant must have a very good level of English to be able to follow the 6 online presentations, communicate with other participants at different universities and conduct research in English for each group of participants.

At the end of the course, the participants receive a certificate from the University of Groningen, Netherlands, sealed by Damascus University.
