Start of the 2024 Scientific Engineering Conference under the theme “Sustainability in Engineering Facilities at the Faculty of Civil Engineering

2024 Scientific Engineering Conference under the theme “Sustainability in Engineering Facilities was launched at the Al- Basel Auditorium in the presence of Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Prof. Bassam Ibrahim, Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Eng. Lamia Shakour, members of the diplomatic sector in Damascus, Governor of Damascus, Secretary of Damascus University branch of the Arab Socialist Baath Party, and Head of the Syrian Engineers Syndicate.  Participants included researchers and specialists from Arab and foreign countries and an exhibition of scientific research posters and another of Syrian engineering industries are held in the faculty’s foyer during the conference.

The conference discusses ten main topics, including modern technologies in structural engineering, sustainability assessment systems in the construction sector, intelligent transportation systems, sustainable health and environmental engineering systems, modern technologies in geotechnical engineering, 3D modeling of photogrammetry and laser scanning products, and sensor technology and its use in sustainable development. The topics also include integrated management of water resources, the role of measurement and monitoring systems in their sustainability, and the role of building materials and their additives in the sustainability of facilites

President of Damascus University, Prof. Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban, stressed the great role played by the students of the University in cooperation with the university’s branch of the National Union since the first day of the earthquake disaster that hit Syria in February of last year. They were present in all the provinces affected by the disaster.

Prof. Al-Jabban pointed out that holding the conference came in the framework of the university’s continuous strive to achieve academic and research development in partnership with various governmental and private sectors, including universities and research bodies, with the aim of enhancing excellence and expertise. He also referred to the importance of sustainability in light of the environmental challenges facing our societies, including civil engineering. He added that the importance of holding the conference stems from the fact that it discusses important issues related to sustainability in engineering facilities, which primarily takes into account environmental requirements

Dean of the Faculty of Civil Engineering at Damascus University, Prof. Khawla Mansour explained that the number of research papers that will be presented during the conference exceeds 150 research papers by local and international Arab and foreign researchers. Some lectures will be presented in person and others will be held online.

The opening session of the conference was followed by an exhibition of scientific research posters and an exhibition of engineering industries. The conference runs for two days, with ten scientific sessions chaired by professors and researchers.
