“Crises, Traumas and How to Deal with Them”: A Scientific Day on the occasion of the actual launch of Counseling and Psychological Support Unit at Damascus University

 Counseling and Psychological Support Unit opens for the first time in Damascus University, in cooperation between the Faculty of Medicine and the Faculty of Education.

 

On inauguration, Dr.  Muhammad Osama Al-Jabban, President of Damascus University, talked about the psychological support team which comprises professors and students at Damascus University; the team had a previous experience supporting those affected by the earthquake, 2023, in Aleppo, Latakia and Hama. The Scientific Inauguration Day represents the beginning of the Counseling and Psychological Support Unit in action, Professor Al-Jabban pointed out.

 

Head of the Department of Internal Medicine and the General Supervisor of the University Counseling and Psychological Support Unit, Dr. Youssef Latifeh, explained that the unit has supervisor doctors and psychologists to cover all faculties- further announcements and guidelines for registration will be provided for those who want to benefit from this service. This service, Dr. Latifa said, is the first of its kind among Syrian universities, and the Scientific Inauguration Day includes scientific sessions by doctors and specialists in the field.

 

Dean of the Faculty of Education at Damascus University, Dr. Maha Zahlouk stated that integrated psychological counseling will be provided to Damascus University students- which is vital for the students’ emotional, cognitive and social well-being.

 

Students need to register on the platform to benefit from the services, and the process is confidential and ethical. The unit’s mission is to provide support to students who find it difficult to adapt to university in addition to preventive counseling.
