Photodynamic Therapy in Scientific Research and Medical Applications - A Scientific Day at the Higher Institute for Laser Research and Applications

 Activities of the scientific day on "Photodynamic therapy in scientific research and in medical applications" began at the Higher Institute for Laser Research and its applications at Damascus University, with the participation of researchers and specialists from the university and the Atomic Energy Commission.

 

Vice President of Damascus University for Scientific Research and Postgraduate Studies Affairs, Dr. Mohammed Firas Al-Hinawi, stressed the importance of the scientific day, because it highlights the uses of photodynamics in medical applications and introduces scientific research related to photodynamic therapy, whether at the university or the Atomic Energy Commission.

 

Dean of the Institute, Dr. Tammam Motaweh explained that the scientific day is an opportunity for researchers and interested parties to exchange information and experiences, and to introduce the most important scientific achievements in the field of photodynamic therapy in Syria.

 

Dr. Ahmed Al-Fayoumi from the Atomic Energy Commission gave a lecture on strategies for the synthesis and characterization of light-sensitive materials that are used in the application of photodynamic therapy to treat cancer.

 

Dr. Omar Hamada, Head of the Department of Oral Medicine at the Faculty of Dentistry, pointed out that the scientific day focuses on an unknown aspect of laser, which uses biomodulation or motor phototherapy. He also added that the Faculty of Dentistry is a leader in this field, pointing out that most cases related to cancer treatment in the faculty are in partnership with the Atomic Energy Commission.

 

The scientific day was attended by Dean of the Faculty of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Dr. Mustafa Al-Mawaldi, and a number of professors, specialists, interested people and graduate students.
